Christmas is a festival celebrated all over the world by people from all faiths. Come next month, and we’ll see a frenzy of Christmas shopping. You can decorate your apartments in Calicut to give it a festive look, in spite of the space restriction. Here are a few cool ideas:
- Christmas Tree: you may not be able to have a huge tree inside, but you can have lots of mini-trees. Use a branch from a fern, frost it and hang a few small ornaments, and put it in a small flowerpot. Take a few pinecones and paint them green. Fix them upside down in tiny pots and you can spread them all over your apartment – several mini trees instead of one will bring in the Christmas cheer. If you’re artistic, draw the shape of a Christmas tree on a mount board, and fill the insides with tissue paper (fix it with a mix of glue and water). Once dried, paint it, and hang it on the wall! If your living room is large enough, buy just the treetop and hang decorations; top it up with a small star on top – your tree is ready!
- Smells: To make your Calicut flat smell Christmassy, place cinnamon candles in different areas, and light them from time to time. You can make your own – just wrap a few cinnamon sticks around the candle, microwave for 30 seconds, take it out, and holding a towel, squeeze the sticks to the melting wax, and repeat. They’re ready! You can also make your own potpourri by mixing a few cinnamon sticks, a couple of oranges, halved, and a cup of fresh cherries or berries. You can dry them and tie them up in muslin cloth and place them around the house.
- Windows: You can frost your windows, cut out snowflake shapes from white chart paper and stick them on to create a stunning effect. You can hang white lights bordering the windows for a wintery effect; hang garlands and shiny ornaments or tiny wreaths in windows to create a festive atmosphere.
- Lights: you can hang white Christmas lights from the ceiling to create a winter wonderland effect all over – for added effect, hang handcrafted snowflake from the wires.
- Doors: you can fix small wreaths on the outside of your main door, as well as the inside – and on other doors as well for that Christmas feeling. Using pine needles for the wreaths will also give a Christmas tree smell to your apartment.
